Why it matters
Tacurong is Sultan Kudarat's primary commercial city, distinct from the provincial capital at Isulan about 20 minutes away. Known as the City of Goodwill, it serves surrounding municipalities through banks, markets, and major transport terminals. Sultan Kudarat is now the top coffee producer in the Philippines, and much of that harvest passes through Tacurong for processing. The city is also home to the Southern Philippines Grain Complex, the largest grains processing facility in the country. Tacurong has the lowest poverty rate in the province at 15.3 percent. Most travelers fly into General Santos and take a two hour bus or van to reach the Tacurong transport terminal. The Talakudong Festival, or Festival of Hats, is celebrated every September 18.

The Isulan highway junction is close, and from Tacurong you can reach Koronadal in about an hour and Cotabato City in a similar time, making it central to a central Mindanao road trip.

Food options in the city center lean toward unpretentious and filling Carenderia meals and grilled pork and chicken. The Baras Bird Sanctuary is nearby and makes for a viable early morning extension before the heat builds and before the commercial energy of the market takes over the day.
