It's generally considered more challenging and longer, and the reward is the sense of having the mountain almost to yourself compared to the Davao side trails, which carry more climber volume.

Local guides are mandatory under protected area rules. The peak climbing seasons when permits fill up quickly are December to March and June to August. Before You Go
Lake Agco, the sulphur lake at the base of the mountain, is accessible as a side trip without climbing the full mountain, and the hot spring pools near the lake are a real attraction. The water is warm, the sulphur smell is strong, and it's an unusual place to spend an afternoon. From Kidapawan city center to Barangay Ilomavis is about an hour by habal-habal, and the road passes through agricultural land and then forest before the terrain starts to show you what you're heading into.
