Initial Claims Reserve

GSIS set aside P69.1 million as an initial loss reserve after the June 8, 2026, magnitude 7.8 earthquake off Sarangani province.

The reserve covers 4,403 insurance policies that may have been affected. The total sum insured across those policies is P23.59 billion. GSIS said the reserve may increase as field assessments continue.

The review covers buildings, equipment, public facilities, and government owned assets held by national agencies and LGUs. GSIS inspection teams were sent to Mindanao State University in General Santos, the General Santos City Government, and the Municipality of Alabel.

Emergency Loans for Members and Pensioners

The claims reserve is separate from the emergency loan program. GSIS also opened P15.1 billion in emergency loans for more than 608,000 government employees and retirees in calamity declared areas.

Eligible borrowers must be active government employees or old age or disability pensioners who live or work in an area under a state of calamity. GSIS also listed account conditions, including recent premium payment, no pending administrative case, and no overdue GSIS loan.

Applications are handled through the GSIS Touch mobile app. Loan proceeds are sent to ATM or transaction cards. The application deadline reported by GSIS is September 7, 2026.

What Borrowers Can Receive

Members with no existing emergency loan balance may borrow up to P20,000 net. Members with an outstanding balance may apply for up to P40,000 gross. That amount pays off the previous balance and leaves a P20,000 net release.

The loan carries 6 percent yearly interest and is payable over 36 months. Employees must keep at least P5,000 net take home pay after deductions. Pensioners must keep at least 25 percent of their basic monthly pension.
