Azuela Cove Puts Up Davao's First 3D LED Wall While Ayala Land and the Alcantaras Work on a Second Mall
October 15, 2026 · Joshua S Bariñan
The 25 hectare estate that Ayala Land and the Alcantara Group have been building on the old Alsons plywood site in Lanang has added a curved LED wall at Azuela High Street that plays anamorphic clips, the kind that appear to leap out of the screen when viewed from the right spot. The estate announced it as the first of its kind in Davao. It is the most visible change at the estate since the High Street's formal opening a year ago, and it comes as Ayala Malls prepares its second Davao mall on the same property.
An anamorphic LED wall is a screen, usually bent around a corner, that plays video drawn in forced perspective so that objects appear to push out past the screen's edge when a viewer stands at a fixed angle. The best known Philippine example is at Bonifacio High Street in Taguig, which the Davao installation has been compared to.
The wall on High Street
Azuela Cove announced the screen on its TikTok account as "Davao's first 3D LED Wall." The local food blog Davao Food Trips posted a clip of it on September 20 and wrote that the corner screen on Azuela High Street in Lanang "somehow reminds us of Bonifacio High Street LED wall in Bonifacio Global City Central Square." The estate has not published the screen's dimensions, cost or supplier, and Ayala Land had not issued a press statement on it as of Thursday.
What the High Street is
Azuela High Street is the retail strip that Ayala Land and the Alcantara Group broke ground on in October 2022 as the second retail phase of the estate, after The Shops at Azuela Cove. It was planned with 3,800 square meters of leasable space beside a 1.8 hectare park, with a boardwalk along the shoreline to follow. Yeng Tupaz, then a vice president and senior estate development head at Ayala Land, said at the time that the design borrowed from the company's High Street in Bonifacio Global City.
The strip had its formal opening, called Bright Beginnings, on September 26, 2025, with a Christmas lighting attended by members of the Zobel, Alcantara and Floirendo families. The shops that opened that day included Matcha Tokyo, described as the first in Mindanao, Butter by MomBakes, Hao Tang Hot Pot and Dreamnest Café, joining Finca Café, Lash in the City, TUF Barber and Baker's Aesthetics. Edith Alcantara, president and chief executive of Alsons Land, said the project was about "building on our family's legacy in Davao while looking ahead to the city's bright future."
In December 2025 the estate said Adidas would open on the strip that month, with Bootcamp and Rev to follow in 2026, and that the High Street had become a regular venue for fun runs and sunrise yoga sessions on the Seaside Promenade.
The second Ayala mall
The same December statement said the partners were "advancing plans for a future mall" at the estate, to be built as an extension of the High Street rather than a separate box. Jannice Parreno, general manager of Ayala Malls Abreeza, told BusinessMirror on December 19 that the second Ayala mall in Davao was confirmed for Azuela Cove, the former site of the Alcantara and Sons plywood mill, and that the blueprint would be disclosed once permitting and other regulatory work were completed in 2026.
That puts two Ayala Malls projects in Davao City at once. Ayala Malls said in February that a 2.5 billion peso expansion of Abreeza, a five storey building with three retail floors and two office floors, would start in the first half of 2026 and finish in the second half of 2028. No start date has been given for the Azuela mall.
What is on this month
Event listings for the estate show The Cove Flea on Thursday, October 15 from 3 p.m., following Crafts Fest Dabaw, a holiday marketplace for makers, on October 10 and the Elevation Run on October 11 with 3, 5, 10 and 16 kilometer distances. A Swap and Shop community pop up is listed for November 13.
The estate
Azuela Cove has been built out since 2017 by Aviana Development Corporation, the joint venture of Ayala Land and the Alcantara Group, on 25 hectares of the former wood factory site at the corner of J.P. Laurel Avenue and R. Castillo Street, facing Samal Island across the gulf. Its residences are sold under Ayala Land's luxury brand. The Shops opened first, anchored by the Gaisano group's G Center, a 9,000 square meter complex whose G Market supermarket soft opened on September 8, 2021.
The seaside promenade is open to the public during set hours, which is why the estate draws runners and families who do not live there.
